Introducing SRHD Source Track

Today, as part of the Version 2 upgrade to Spec Rep Help Desk, we are introducing SRHD Source Track—a major new feature designed to make AI-assisted architectural research safer, more transparent and easier to verify.

When Spec Rep Help Desk provides an answer involving the National Construction Code (NCC), Source Track can automatically present the relevant NCC pages directly beneath the response. You can review the pages immediately or open them at full size for closer inspection.

There is nothing to switch on, configure or request. Source Track operates automatically and appears whenever relevant source pages are available.

The source is now part of the answer

AI can help architects and other building-industry professionals understand complex requirements, locate important information and work through questions much faster than traditional research methods.

However, AI can still occasionally misunderstand a question, overlook important context or provide an incorrect interpretation. This means that, particularly when dealing with building regulations and compliance matters, an AI-generated answer should never be accepted without the ability to verify it.

Until now, checking an answer could mean leaving the conversation, opening the NCC separately and trying to locate the clauses and pages on which the response was based. This additional step takes time and can make it difficult to understand how the answer relates to the original source material.

Source Track changes that experience.

By placing the relevant NCC pages directly beneath the response, Source Track allows you to move immediately from the AI’s explanation to the original source. You can inspect the wording, review the surrounding provisions and decide for yourself whether the response accurately reflects the NCC.

This does not replace professional judgement, nor does it remove the need to consult the NCC and other relevant regulatory material. Instead, it makes that essential checking process faster, clearer and much easier to complete.

Designed to support informed decisions

Source Track is not simply about providing a reference or a link. It is designed to make verification a natural part of using Spec Rep Help Desk.

The AI response can help explain the issue in plain language, while the accompanying NCC pages allow you to review the source for yourself. This combination gives users the benefit of fast AI-assisted research without separating the answer from the material that supports it.

It also helps users identify when an issue may be more complex than it first appears. Reviewing the original pages can reveal qualifications, exceptions, definitions or surrounding provisions that may be important to a particular project.

The result is a more informed and responsible way to use AI for architectural knowledge.

Building the safest AI for industry

Our ambition is for Spec Rep Help Desk to be the safest AI system for Australia’s architecture and construction industry.

We do not believe that safety comes from pretending AI will never make a mistake. It comes from designing practical safeguards that help users recognise uncertainty, assess important information and check answers against authoritative source material.

Source Track is an important part of that ambition.

It works alongside Lighthouse Risk Check, which is designed to identify risks, uncertainties and matters that may require additional investigation or professional verification.

Together, Source Track and Lighthouse Risk Check provide two complementary safeguards. Lighthouse Risk Check helps users recognise where caution may be required, while Source Track gives them immediate access to the NCC pages needed to check the information themselves.

We believe this combination establishes a new gold standard for AI-assisted architectural knowledge in Australia.

Safer does not mean infallible

AI will still occasionally get things wrong. No AI system should be treated as a substitute for professional judgement, and every project must still be assessed according to its particular circumstances.

The difference is that Source Track makes it substantially easier to identify and correct a potential error before relying on an answer.

When the source is placed directly in front of you—ready to inspect at full size—you remain in control of the final assessment. AI can help you find and understand the information, but you can check the original material and reach your own conclusion.

AI may not be infallible, but with Source Track, it has never been safer or easier to check for yourself.

More Version 2 upgrades are coming

SRHD Source Track is live now as part of the Spec Rep Help Desk Version 2 upgrade, and this is only the beginning.

Over the coming weeks, we will be announcing more exciting Version 2 upgrades designed to make Spec Rep Help Desk more useful, more capable and even safer for Australia’s architecture and construction industry.
